Foundation Update - December 2010
Message from Cherlyn Spencer
Executive Director, Alameda County Health Care Foundation

Dear Friends,
I am overjoyed to tell you that our campaign to raise funds to purchase a combined cardiac catheterization laboratory and angiography suite has come to a successful conclusion!
As expressed so well by the quote above: this achievement would not be possible without the help of so many. Thank you for your support over the past three years as we have worked to bring this life-saving equipment to our community. Despite the economic challenges facing our local community, many of you contributed to this campaign. We appreciate all your support; every single donation made a difference. Read more about the successful completion of the campaign below.

As most of you know, for the past three years, ACHCF has been engaged in a major capital campaign to raise $2.66 million to purchase a combined cardiac catheterization laboratory and angiography suite for the Alameda County Medical Center’s Highland Hospital facility.
On November 16, the Alameda County Health Care Foundation held its fourth annual gathering of leaders from the local faith-based community. The breakfast event, held on the campus of Highland Hospital, was attended by leaders from a diverse cross-section of faith-based and community organizations. Also attending were several leaders of community-based organizations. Their participation in the event underscored the collaboration that exists between faith-based and community organizations throughout the County.
At its July meeting, the ACHCF Board initiated what is expected to become a new tradition: the “Outstanding Board Member of the Year” award. The recipient of this honor was EJ Hilliard. A board member for the past six years, EJ has served two years as board chair. In addition, she has been co-chair of the Gala Planning Committee twice; most recently, she co-chaired ACHCF ’s 20th Anniversary Gala in June 2010. This event drew the largest attendance ever and celebrated ACHCF’s 20-year history of supporting the Medical Center. As EJ states: “It has been my deep pleasure to serve on the Foundation Board and to support the Medical Center in its efforts to provide quality, accessible health care to all in Alameda County. I am honored to have played a small part in this. And, I am deeply honored and humbled to have received this award from my esteemed peers.”
At its September meeting, the ACHCF Board recognized Anthony Thompson, Vice President of Bank of Alameda, for his outstanding service as Golf Marshal for the
On September 20, ACHCF hosted its 15th Annual Golf Classic. By all measures, the event was an outstanding success. Held at the Sequoyah Country Club in the Oakland Hills, the setting was exquisite and the weather was perfect. Close to 130 golfers attended the event, which offered the opportunity to experience what is considered by golfers to be “the best kept secret in the Bay Area.” In addition, attendees enjoyed socializing and competing in a variety of contests. The event was capped off with a reception in the Terrace Bar, an elegant dinner in the Sky Room highlighted by a spectacular sunset, and a ceremony recognizing winners of the golf contests and raffle prizes.
Under the stewardship of the Alameda County Health Care Foundation (ACHCF), the Alameda County Medical Center (ACMC) kicked off its annual Combined Charities Campaign, A Season for Sharing, on November 16 and 17 on the Fairmont and Highland Campuses, respectively. All who visited the tables received free popcorn, and those who completed a payroll deduction pledge form or made a one-time donation received incentive prizes.
