Cherlyn0906

Dear Friends,

I am overjoyed to tell you that our campaign to raise funds to purchase a combined cardiac catheterization laboratory and angiography suite has come to a successful conclusion!

As expressed so well by the quote above: this achievement would not be possible without the help of so many. Thank you for your support over the past three years as we have worked to bring this life-saving equipment to our community. Despite the economic challenges facing our local community, many of you contributed to this campaign. We appreciate all your support; every single donation made a difference. Read more about the successful completion of the campaign below.

Honoring Outstanding Board Members

At its July meeting, the ACHCF Board initiated what is expected to become a new tradition: the “Outstanding Board Member of the Year” award. The recipient of this honor was EJ Hilliard. A board member for the past six years, EJ has served two years as board chair. In addition, she has been co-chair of the Gala Planning Committee twice; most recently, she co-chaired ACHCF ’s 20th Anniversary Gala in June 2010. This event drew the largest attendance ever and celebrated ACHCF’s 20-year history of supporting the Medical Center. As EJ states: “It has been my deep pleasure to serve on the Foundation Board and to support the Medical Center in its efforts to provide quality, accessible health care to all in Alameda County. I am honored to have played a small part in this. And, I am deeply honored and humbled to have received this award from my esteemed peers.”

athompson smAt its September meeting, the ACHCF Board recognized Anthony Thompson, Vice President of Bank of Alameda, for his outstanding service as Golf Marshal for the 15th Annual Golf Classic, held on September 20 at the beautiful Sequoyah Country Club in the Oakland Hills. A relatively new board member, Anthony volunteered enthusiastically to serve as golf marshal and performed the role to perfection. With close to 130 golfers attending the event, Anthony was kept very busy overseeing the contests, answering numerous logistics questions, and assuring that any and all needs of our guests were met.

What’s Next? Acute Tower Replacement (ATR) Project at Highland Hospital

A Picture-perfect Day on the Course

golf2010On September 20, ACHCF hosted its 15th Annual Golf Classic. By all measures, the event was an outstanding success. Held at the Sequoyah Country Club in the Oakland Hills, the setting was exquisite and the weather was perfect. Close to 130 golfers attended the event, which offered the opportunity to experience what is considered by golfers to be “the best kept secret in the Bay Area.” In addition, attendees enjoyed socializing and competing in a variety of contests. The event was capped off with a reception in the Terrace Bar, an elegant dinner in the Sky Room highlighted by a spectacular sunset, and a ceremony recognizing winners of the golf contests and raffle prizes.

Youth Violence Prevention Program: A Success Story

YouthAlive2010

During the evening program at the 15th Annual Golf Classic, Anne Marks, Executive Director of the Oakland-based nonprofit, Youth ALIVE!, and Rod Herbert, Intervention Specialist with Youth ALIVE!’s Caught in the Crossfire program, held the guests’ attention as they provided a brief overview of the Youth Violence Prevention Program’s (YVPP’s)  intervention services at Highland Hospital.

This award-winning program is a collaborative effort between Youth ALIVE! and the Alameda County Medical Center. YVPP is known in the community as “Caught in the Crossfire,” the name of Youth ALIVE!’s program that intervenes with youth who have been literally caught in the crossfire. YVPP coordinates with Caught in the Crossfire (CiC) to serve youth who are admitted to Highland Hospital suffering from a gunshot, stabbing, or other violence-related injury.
